Dr. Kenika Holloway, LPC
Hi there! I'm Dr. Kenika Holloway and I want to be your relationship architect. I want to assist you in building the relationship you desire. I have been be a counselor for thirteen years and have always had a passion to work with couples. I earned both my doctorate and master's degree from Mercer University and I obtained my bachelor's degree in Spanish from Florida A & M University. During my doctoral program, I focused my studies on Marriage and Family Therapy and I researched how counselors' personal romantic relationships influenced their comfort in talking about emotional intimacy with their clients. I found that counselors are comfortable talking about intimacy, but the topic may not consistently be discussed.
If you choose to work with me, then intimacy and intimacy related problems will be discussed in a warm, non-judgmental space. I recognize that we naturally have the tendency to want to connect with another person and when this is not happening like we think it should, the reality can wreck havoc on our overall wellness. I specialize in love restoration, relationship conflicts, infidelity, financial discord, communication problems, life transitions; and learning how to live together and fighting fair. I have a special interest in supporting families with parenting issues, balancing work/life stress and working with couples where one partner was previously incarcerated and is now back home. As a clinician, I have a passion for helping couples understand the root of their distress and assist couples work through betrayals of trust. I enjoy leading one-on-one couples intensives as well as more traditional weekly therapy. I will be pursuing certification in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and applying the research to help couples and families not merely heal their relationships, but to create relationships that are healing.
Additionally, I love to teach and as a presenter, I have an engaging, personable, and respectful style and I enjoy using stories and metaphors to help my audience easily understand the material and to motivate listeners to apply what they learn. I have spoken at international and national conferences. I have given presentations to the Georgia Center for Resources and Support for adoptive and foster parents on Post Adoption Depression, Adoption and Family Ghosts and Managing Parental Stress. I was a guest speaker at the He Said She Said community event in 2017 and I am currently an adjunct professor at Mercer University.
I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia and the mother of two children and a furry companion, Chui. I love to travel and teach Spanish to children.
